TEMPEST Simulators:

Gaul TEMPEST Consulting offers three varieties of TEMPEST simulators to enrich your capabilities for personnel training and certification.  The three simulators include TSS, 4TES, and OmniTES.

TEMPEST Software Simulator (TSS)
The TSS is a software simulation for performing Detection System Sensitivity (DSS), Compromising Emanation (CE) searches, and CE measurements.  The TSS simulates performing a TEMPEST test but without the need for expensive receivers, oscilloscopes, or signal generators.  The software provides a learning experience much like a flight simulator does for learning to fly an airplane.  The simulator can be used as a training tool and also as a proficiency testing tool similar to what is currently used in the Certified TEMPEST Professional (CTP) hands-on exam.  Included with the TSS is an additional software program that simulates performing a DSS measurement.  A
30-day trial license is available upon request.

TEMPEST Electromagnetic Simulator (4TES)
The 4TES hardware simulator is a replacement for the current 35-year old simulator used for the CTP Level I hands-on exam.  One 4TES is required at each student’s workstation so that each student can select the two ASCII characters in the test message or disable the test message when measuring the TEMPEST limited ambient.  The 4TES is fully configured with four Arbitrary Waveform Generators (AWG), one laptop controller, one 4-port USB hub, four mixers, one combiner, one rotary attenuator, and an assortment of high quality RG-223 coaxial cables and adapters.  A run-time version of LabVIEW is pre-installed on the included laptop controller along with a custom LabVIEW VI called 4TES.  Please note that 4TES is configured to run on only the supplied laptop by virtue of the node-locked license.

OmniTES
The OmniTES is a hardware simulator which can create the full gamut of RED signals available in both the 4TES and ATES simulators.  This simulator differs from the other simulators in that it is not intended for use in a hands-on exam setting where multiple carriers are needed.  The OmniTES simulator is an excellent choice for cost-effective TEMPEST training such as training in the use of the Rohde & Schwarz FSWT Test Receiver.  The simulator creates a single RF carrier with adjustable noise and selectable RED signal modulation types including QPSK with sinewave impairments to I and Q, 100Base-TX and 100Base-FX Ethernet, raster video, Class D audio amplifier, and traditional ASCII signals.  The OmniTES includes an RF signal generator, a dual-channel arbitrary waveform generator, and a breakout box to simplify the interconnections. A run-time version of LabVIEW is pre-installed on the included laptop controller along with a custom LabVIEW VI called OmniTES.  Please note that OmniTES is configured to run on only the supplied laptop by virtue of the node-locked license.  Because of its attractive price, companies and government organizations will find the OmniTES to be a valuable training tool for their staff.
